Lead-free ceramics

Lead-free Moroccan ceramics – safe quality for you and your customers

Moroccan pottery is one of the world's most prized crafts - known for its hand-painted patterns, vibrant colors and long traditions from cities like Safi, Fez and Agadir. Each dish and bowl is shaped, painted and glazed by hand according to methods passed down through generations.

At the same time, we know that there are major differences in how ceramics are manufactured – especially when it comes to the use of lead in the glaze.

Traditionally, lead glaze has been used because it melts at lower temperatures. This makes production easier, faster and cheaper, and often produces a very shiny surface with strong colours. The disadvantage is that lead is not allowed in food-safe ceramics in the EU.

The ceramics we offer are lead-free and food-safe . To achieve this, glazes that can withstand high temperatures, advanced kilns and longer, more controlled firing processes are used. This is a significantly more demanding manufacturing process – both in terms of time and technology – and also means higher production costs.

The result is ceramics that:

  • ✔ Meets EU food safety requirements
  • ✔ Is free from lead
  • ✔ Dishwasher safe
  • ✔ Is safe to sell to end customers

For the end consumer, it is almost impossible to tell the difference between lead-containing and lead-free ceramics. Therefore, documentation is crucial. All our ceramics are tested by independent laboratories within the EU , and test results can be shown if required.

As a retailer, you should be able to feel confident that:

  • you sell products that comply with current EU legislation
  • you can stand behind quality and safety
  • you avoid risks, complaints and uncertainty about material selection

Choosing lead-free ceramics is not the easiest option – but it is the right one. For us, it is about responsibility, long-term thinking and respect for both the craft and the end customer.
